Nishan-e-Sikhi Kaar Sewa Khadur Sahib organised an event dedicated to World Environment Day on June 5, 2023.

The event started by planting Guru Nanak Memorial Forest at Nagoke near Khadur Sahib on 6 kanals of land as part of afforestation campaign under the patronage of Baba Sewa Singh Ji Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib. It is 253rd mini forest in a series of 550 forests to be planted to commemorate 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. S. Harpal Singh Pannu (Chief Agriculture Officer, Tarn Taran) was the Chief Guest. Later, a seminar was organized at Nishan-e-Sikhi auditorium on following issues:

(i)reducing the use of plastics

(ii)solid waste management

(iii) waste water management.

The seminar was attended by about 50 Sarpanches and Panchayat members of three blocs of Tarn Taran Distt.

S. Jasvinder Pal Singh, Director Environment Nishan-e-Sikhi welcomed the guests.

S. Jagroop Singh showcased the environmental conservation projects being run by Nishan-e-Sikhi. Then Dr. Rajneesh Kumar and his team from Roundglass Foundation, Mohali showed their presentation on different types of waste like wet waste, dry waste etc. and the best practices of waste management being implemented by Roundglass in large number of villages in Malwa region of Punjab. They also put up an exhibition to give practice knowledge to the participants. Master Baldev Singh, Sarpanch Village Kallah told about the environmental protection and cleaning operations going on in his village. He also discussed the challenges being faced by the Panchayats to carry out environmental work at the village level. The chief guest of the seminar S. Harpal Singh Pannu said that the agriculture department is emphasizing on direct sowing which can save a lot of water. In order to save underground water, he appealed to the farmers to use canal water and at the same time he also praised the efforts being made by Kaar Sewa Khadur Sahib for conservation of environment. In the end, Baba Sewa Singh Ji thanked the guests and honored the guests by giving Cloth Bags and literature published by the organization. On this occasion Harjit Singh BDPO, Khadur Sahib, S. Harnandan Singh Secretary, Bhai Waryam Singh, Principal Sri Guru Angad Dev Institute of Religious Studies, S. Baldev Singh, Director Sri Guru Angad Dev Institute of Career and Courses were also present. It is worth mentioning here that on this day 7000 trees were planted by Nishan-e-Sikhi in collaboration with Maharashtra Sikh Association on the roadsides at Kalamboli, New Mumbai, Maharashtra dedicated to World Environment Day. Similarly, activities were also conducted in various educational institutions running under the organization to create awareness among students about environmental protection.
